Kris Stroobants was born in Diest on 7 January 1973 and was bit by the music bug at a very early age. At 14, he started his studies at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven where he won a first prize in solfège and band.
He transferred to the Royal Conservatory of Brussels to continue his studies and there he earned a Master's in Music, with an option in Music Theory — Music Style, and a Teacher Qualification. He studied trumpet and baroque trumpet under Leon Pétré. In addition to this, he studied Orchestra Conducting under Jan Stulen and Edmond Saveniers at the Royal Conservatory of Maastricht.
He teaches Music at the Miniemeninstituut and at the Leuven State secondary schools, Redingenhof & Ring. He taught general music education at the City Conservatories of Tienen and St-Agatha-Berchem and at the Municipal Conservatory of Grimbergen.
Kris has conducted various choirs, brass bands, and symphonic orchestras and collaborates as conductor for various opera, operetta, musical and theatre productions.
Until recently, he was assistant conductor for the KSO (Kerkraads Symphonic Orchestra) and assistant to Henk Guittart for the "Pelléas & Mélisande" project of the Maastricht, Ghent and Tilburg conservatories.
More recently, Kris has enjoyed great success with his musical direction of Panta Rei's 10-year jubilee concert "O[u]r Reason?" and of the "Tijdloos Verweven in Harmonie" project on the occasion of the Harmonie van Herent.
He also conducted the musical theatre production of "Ceci n'est pas Carmen" and Panta Rei's "Tegenlied" project, both for Leuven's cultural centre 30CC.
Later on, Kris conducts the youth band Panta Rei in Leuven, the Koninklijke Harmonie in Herent, Koninklijke Harmonie Broederkring Houthalen, and the recently formed symphonic orchestra Frascati.
In addition to this, he is currently collaborating on the "OPERA/een werkstuk" project at the fABULEUS theatre and dance production house, and on the music project "Grenzeloos" by VLAMO, Koor & Stem en Danspunt (choir & voice and dance point), and the "Pantagleize" theatre production.
